Thanks for checking out my résumé but I'm current employed at Schematic.
After ten years of self-taught and self-motivated work with computers and the world wide web, I am ready to take my design degree out into the real world and find an interesting and creative career alongside a team of web professionals making usable, beautiful, engaging things.
2003 — 2007
Going to design school made me realize that as much as I love design, typography, and motion, I am a programmer at heart. But I value my design education immensely for the people I worked with and the skills and vocabulary I developed. I hope to work closely with designers throughout my career, and I am proud of the fact that I can speak their language and appreciate their work from the perspective of a designer.
UCLA was also an invaluable resource of classes outside my major. In addition to design I studied Film History, Music History, Communications, and Psychology extensively.
Summer 2006 — ongoing
I worked as a consultant for this LA-based domestic abuse non-profit, creating a custom content management system in Ruby on Rails as well as dynamic Flash movie players and slideshows. Working with the graphic design team at RMCD, the goal was creating an easy to use, flexible system that “just worked” with the beautiful new branding, launched in October 2006. We launched the sister site, Denim Day in LA, in April 2007.
Spring 2006 — ongoing
The goal of her site is to cleanly display all of her great work while creating a distinction between Rebeca the designer and Rebeca the artist. Custom content management system in Ruby on Rails, with smart file management and a simple image request application.
2005 — 2007
I learned Ruby on Rails while making the first three or four iterations of my fraternity chapter's web site. A large, multiuser private section, with access control, attendance tracking, and various data exporters, I designed to be used long after I graduated.
Summer 2005 – Winter 2005
I assisted in moving the existing Processing web site to web standards, first porting the XML-based content management system from perl to PHP, and recoding all the templates to a CSS-based layout.
Spring 2005 – Spring 2007
My day job during college, I spent over two years as a public service assistant, which entailed patron supervision, photocopying and scanning (with some image manipulation), invoicing and mailing, and preparation of rare and special materials for storage and transportation.
“State of Train,” Motion. Winter 2007
“The Web Word” JS/interactive web site experiment. Winter 2006
Alternative interface experiment using Processing and web cameras. Spring 2006
Macro Memory Actionscript/Flash game. Spring 04
My first love is music. I spent my high school years as an active member of the music wing of our performing arts magnet program, performing in dozens of bands and ensembles. I recently completed my ninth and final year of Marching Band (eighth grade through college).
I gained valuable leadership experience as Drum Major of my high school band and Equipment Crew leader as part of the Solid Gold Sound at UCLA.
I spent a few weeks in the summers of 2005 and 2006 teaching web design to high school kids at the UCLA D|MA Summer Institute.
I was elected to the position of Recording and Corresponding Secretary for the Psi Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi at UCLA in 2005 and 2006.
